ZOOM WORKSHOP – COMPETITION SUCCESS

The next Zoom Workshop for club members will be on Wednesday 1st July at 7.30pm. The presenter will be Roy Killen and the topic is “Achieving Success in Photographic Competitions”.

Topics covered in this workshop will include:

  1. Interpreting competition rules.
  2. Benefits of entering Club, National and International competitions.
  3. Evaluating your own images.
  4. Choosing the best images for competitions.
  5. Getting the judges’ attention.

This workshop will help members select and prepare images for club competitions and it will be of special benefit to those considering entering competitions beyond club level – such as the Lake Macquarie International Circuit

If you have attended a previous Belmont 16s Zoom meeting you will receive an invitation email on Wednesday – simply follow the link on your device if you wish to attend.

If you have not attended any previous Belmont 16s Zoom meetings but would like to participate in this new meeting please email Greg Caruthers and he will add you to the invitation list and help with any issues you may have.

Lake Macquarie International Circuit

The Lake Macquarie International Circuit is open for entries and all members of Belmont 16s Photography Club will receive a 15% discount on entry fees. If you wish to take advantage of that discount please email Roy Killen BEFORE you enter so that you can be given the discount code.

The sections of the circuit are Colour, Monochrome, Portrait, Nature, Wildlife and Cell Phone Photography. You can enter as many sections as you want – it’s a simple process similar to entering our monthly club competitions. The entries will be judged three times, giving you plenty of opportunity to have your images accepted or awarded. This is a great opportunity to test the quality of your images against photographers from all over the world.

For more information please visit https://lakemacint.myphotoclub.com.au or email Roy Killen at LakeMacCircuit@gmail.com

MACRO AND CLOSE-UP PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

A Zoom workshop on Macro and Close-Up Photography will be held next week. The details are:

  1. The meeting will occur on Wednesday 10th June commencing at 7pm and will last for approximately 90 minutes. The presenter is Roy Killen.
  2. Topics covered will include: equipment options, lighting options, processing options, subject selection and overcoming challenging issues such as depth of field.
  3. The workshop is available only for members of the Belmont 16s Photography Club.
  4. To prepare for participation you must have the Zoom software on your computer or device. If you have not participated in a previous Zoom meeting go to https://zoom.us/download and download the “Zoom Client for Meetings”.  I suggest you do this as soon as possible and contact Greg Carruthers (the club’s Zoom co-ordinator) if you have any problems.
  5. To participate in the Macro workshop you must also email Greg so that he can add you to the list of participants. If you previously registered for Greg’s Lightroom workshops you will automatically be added to the participant list for this new workshop – you don’t have to contact Greg.
  6. On Wednesday afternoon all participants will receive an email from me with a link inviting them to join the workshop via their computer or device. You can use this link from 6.30pm to make sure you are ready for the 7pm start.

You can find contact details for Greg and me in the “Members” link on the club website if you select “Members Directory”.

PSA Interclub Competitions

Results are in for Round 2 of the Nature competition. We came 2nd and are now sitting in 3rd place overall out of 24 clubs.

Entries for Round 3 of the PSA Interclub competitions close on 1st April – normal entry procedure on our club website.

When you select the section to enter – Open (Colour or mono), Nature, Photojournalism or Photo Travel you will be able to see the entries of other club members. This might help you to decide which of your images to enter, particularly in Nature, PJ and Travel, so that you are not entering images that are very similar to others. (This is a new feature that was not previously enabled.)

If you view the entries for the Round 2 competitions, you will be able to see the score that each image obtained when our Advanced Grade members were selecting the club entries. (This is a new feature that was not previously enabled.)

Please contact me if you have any questions about the PSA Interclub competitions.
