Portfolio Competition
Just a reminder that entries for the club Portfolio Competition close on Sunday 12th September. This is a great opportunity for us to think about our photography and to assemble six images and a composite, along with a Statement of Intent which describes the purpose of the images presented.
The tutorial last night by Janice Koskey from the United States stressed the importance of story telling to strengthen the story telling and impact of our images. She stressed the importance of looking at images deeply to try and understand how they work in communicating a message or an emotion. I think all members who enter the portfolio competition will gain some insights from their images that will help them to develop their own style and improve their image making.

Cancellation of Print Nights and 2021 Print Competitions
At our August Committee Meeting the difficult decision was taken to cancel the remaining Print Nights and the 2021 Print Competitions as a result of the unfolding Covid 19 outbreak in the Greater Sydney and Hunter regions. Your committee understands how important these nights are to members socially and to what the club is able to offer from a photography perspective. Rest assured the committee will be monitoring the Covid 19 situation and the health guidelines and will advise the resumption of our Print Competition nights when it is safe and practicable to do so.
As we did last year all members who have submitted entries in the 2021 Print Competitions can now re-enter those images in the remaining digital competitions so that they can ultimately enter the same image in the club Image of the Year Competitions.
In lieu of the monthly competition nights the club will offer image evaluation sessions along the same lines as we ran earlier in July. All members are encouraged to upload images for discussion and evaluation by 11.55pm on Tuesday 17th August. The image evaluation session will be held via ZOOM on the following Wednesday night, 18th August.

July Competition Night Cancelled
Due to the current Covid 19 situation in the Greater Sydney area and the current restrictions in Newcastle the club committee has decided it would be prudent and in the best interest of members to cancel the July Competition Night. The current situation is evolving rapidly and there was a strong indication at the most recent briefings by the Premier that the current lock down in Sydney would continue into the week of our July Competition Night. Your committee will continue to monitor the advice from N.S.W. Health and the daily briefings from the N.S.W. Government. Resumption of Competition Nights will be dependent on the status of the current Covid 19 outbreak and advice from the N.S.W. Government.
