Lightroom Tips and Tricks Zoom Workshop

Last year I ran a successful workshop outlining some tips and tricks when using and setting up Lightroom Classic. As a follow up to this I will try and run a Zoom meeting for any member interested in some extra Lightroom tips and tricks. Details below

  1. The meeting will occur on Wednesday May 13th at 8pm and last for approx. 1hr
  2. It is only available for members of the 16’s Photography Club
  3. To participate, if you are not already registered you will need to register a Zoom account and download the Zoom client to your computer or device. This is very easy to do! If you would like simple instructions, let me know and I will email them to you.
  4. If you would like to be involved in the workshop, you MUST email me so I can add you to the list of participants.
  5. All participants will then receive an email  with a link inviting them to join the workshop via their computer or device.

This is the first time we have trialled an online workshop so here is your chance to improve your Lightroom skills from the comfort of your home.

You can find my contact details in the “Members” link on the website and then select “Members Directory”

Thanks

May – Raw Image Challenge NEW

In this world of digital photography, it is often said that today’s photograph involves 2 processes. The first is the capturing of your image with your camera/device and the second involves editing this image using your preferred software. This is a challenge open to all members of the 16’s Camera Club. You will be supplied with a raw image file and we would like you to edit the image using some software. One of the goals of the club is to assist members in their photography skills. Here is your chance to improve and practice your editing techniques. Here’s how it works

  1. Download the raw image file from the website. To download the image, go to the members area to enter the “May Raw Image Challenge NEW” This will open a new window where you will see a blue button to “DOWNLOAD FILE.”
  2. Download the file to your computer.
  3. Open and edit the file in your preferred software (or try something different)
  4. When you have completed your edit upload it to the website by entering the “May Raw Image Challenge” using the usual EDI format for your image.
  5. The challenge will open May 1st and close May 31st
  6. After closing members will then be able to see all the images entered, and vote for the winning entries using our online voting system.

This is an ideal opportunity to experiment with your editing skills and to see how others would process a raw image. You can manipulate this image in any way e.g. crop, rotate, monochrome conversion, filters etc, the list is endless. We would like you to experiment!

However just 1 rule. You can only work with what you are given. You are not allowed to add other elements e.g. sky replacements etc and just remember you cannot enter your edited image in a normal EDI competition as it is not your own capture!

Keen to give it a try? Great! The first challenge is a portrait.

Any issues please contact Greg Carruthers (contact details can be found in the members area of the website)

Vale – Rob Miller

It is with great sadness that the club has been informed of Rob Miller’s passing on 25 March 2020 at Gosford Hospital.

Rob had been in and around photography from a very young age. His father, being a cinema cameraman in both the Far East and Hollywood, was a great influence on him. Under his tutorage Rob became adept with both the camera and photographic processing. Rob and his Mother were interred in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in the Philippines during WWII. These were difficult times.

After university Rob went on to study aerial mapping with further training in the U. K. before being posted to the Middle East and later to Nth. Borneo. On completion of his contract he returned to the Philippines where his family were in business. Rob  started a small photographic company specialising in producing classy annual reports allowing him to travel extensively throughout South East Asia. He sold is business in 1968 and subsequently migrated to Australia with his family.

Rob was a popular member of our club. He was always smiling, even in adverse times. He enjoyed the company of our members and took an avid interest in their photographic achievements. He was quick to praise and encourage others and he was slow to condemn. Rob was a very creative and talented photographer and will be greatly missed.

Rob Miller was without a doubt, nature’s quiet gentleman.

Our condolences go out to Rob’s family.
