Portfolio Competition

Just a reminder that entries for the club Portfolio Competition close on Sunday 12th September. This is a great opportunity for us to think about our photography and to assemble six images and a composite, along with a Statement of Intent which describes the purpose of the images presented.

The tutorial last night by Janice Koskey from the United States stressed the importance of story telling to strengthen the story telling and impact of our images. She stressed the importance of looking at images deeply to try and understand how they work in communicating a message or an emotion. I think all members who enter the portfolio competition will gain some insights from their images that will help them to develop their own style and improve their image making.

You can find the links to the portfolio competition rules and the composite image guides when you click on the orange link button titled competition rules and definitions on the entry page on the club website. If you need any help please let me know.

Final Zoom Presentation for August

Our final Zoom workshop for August will be this Wednesday August 25th with Janice Koskey from Boston USA and is on “Contemplating our Fine Art Photography

NEW STARTING TIME – 8pm (due to time differences)

Janice will teach us how to look behind our images and articulate the story that resides there. The presentation helps us to understand the motivation, meaning, or metaphor that make our photography speak about our experience on both sides of the camera lens. Janice draws from the study of literature to help us unlock the plot, characters, setting, theme, and point of view of our photographic endeavours.

Her slide presentation is filled with examples of photographs that depict these elements as well as gestures and symbols. It shows how mood or feeling in a photo can reveal the essence of a scene, the wonder of the viewer, or something from the heart of the photographer.

SOUNDS INTERESTING ! YES?  Zoom will open at 7.45pm for login

See you there! GregC

August Image Evaluation

Due to Covid restrictions the print nights have been cancelled for the remainder of the year. Also due to the success of a previous Zoom image evaluation night where members upload images and then evaluate those images within a small group (approx 5 or 6). It has been decided to trial discussion nights on the 3rd Wednesday for Aug, Sept and Oct. Note this is NOT a competition and you can use any of your images.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

  1. Upload 1,2 or 3 images to the website in the members area for “August Image Evaluation” before 11.55pm Tuesday 17th Aug
  2. Login via Zoom at approx 7pm Wed 18th August
  3. You will be assigned into small groups to discuss the images uploaded for your group

This is a great opportunity to gain feedback for your images from other members. See you there! GregC
