2021 Image of the Year Competition (IOTY) now open for entries

Club members can now enter their IOTY entries on the club website. Entries close at 10.00pm on Sunday 17th October.

The IOTY competition is run for B Grade, A Grade and Advanced in Open Colour, Mono and Nature. Entries to the IOTY competition must have been entered in one of the club digital competitions earlier in the year to qualify for entry. Images that were entered in the September Portfolio competition qualify as digital entries. To enter, go to the usual page for entering club competitions, click on the green “2021 Image of the Year” button and then use the “Select from existing uploaded images” button to locate and enter your images. This will ensure that the images you enter in IOTY are exactly the same as the images that you entered in monthly competitions this year. Members can enter up to four (4) images in each competition.

As per one of my previous posts if you wish to enter an image that you entered in a Print competition earlier in the year then this image must be entered in a digital competition to qualify. If you have not already done this then please enter in one of the October digital competitions.

In the same way as we did last year judging for each competition will be carried out by a panel of three judges who will score the images and achieve a 1st to 10th placing in each competition. The results will be announced on Wednesday 17th November via a ZOOM meeting. The overall IOTY is selected by members voting on the first placed image in each individual IOTY competition. This voting will occur on the club website later in November.

Members whose images receive a 1st to 10th placings can download a digital certificate of their placing from the website. Regrettably there will again be no Christmas/Awards Night this year.

Portfolio Competition is closing soon.

If you have not already done so and want to enter the club’s September portfolio competition you still have a little time to get your entry in. Entries close this coming Sunday evening – Sunday 12th September. The competition will be “judged” by Craig Parker who presented to the club earlier in the year on the same subject. Craig has now also agreed to discuss the results of the competition to provide further feedback and learning on Wednesday 20th October.

The competition rules and the two guideline documents on how to prepare your composite image using either Photoshop or Lightoom can be found in the Club Documents area on the club website or when you are on the competition entry page you can access the same from the orange button titled “CLICK HERE TO VIEW COMPETITION RULES AND DEFINITIONS”.

Hurry, hurry, hurry. last chance to enter!

2022 Set Subject Competitions

It is time to start thinking about Set Subject topics for next year. Usually the topics are put forward by committee members but at our most recent meeting it was suggested that we invite members to submit nominations for a Set Subject along with a suitable criteria that judges can judge against. So, here is your big chance. If in the past you have bemoaned the list of topics and would like an opportunity to put forward a topic (along with a criteria) please send me your suggestions.

Please make sure that your topics are suitable for all members regardless of their grade and circumstances. For example, I don’t think topics around Drone Photography or Underwater Photography will be accepted by the committee.

2022 Set Subject topics along with a suitable criteria should be sent to the following email address by 30th September – belmont16sphotojudging@gmail.com

Image of the Year (IOTY) Competition

Just a reminder to all members that the Image of the Year Competition (IOTY) is fast approaching. It is run in November in lieu of the monthly competitions.

The club made an unsuccessful attempt to restart Print Competitions earlier in the year only to have to suspend them again after Covid restrictions were reimposed.

One of the rules of the IOTY Competition is that an entry in the 2021 IOTY Competition must have already been entered into one of the club monthly competitions that were held in 2021. It is therefore important that if you entered a print image in a print competition in May or June this year and you want to enter that image in the digital IOTY Competitions that you reenter that image in one of the digital competitions that are still available in September or October.
