November Club Night

Our next club night will be at the Valentine Bowling Club at 7.00pm on Wednesday 9th November. Our meeting will start as normal at 7.00pm with a presentation by myself on a road trip through Namibia I undertook in 2017. Following the presentation, we will have our normal break for refreshments and raffles, then a viewing of 2022 IOTY results.

This month for those that are interested we are going to include a practical session on capturing panoramic images on the lake foreshore adjacent to the club prior to the start of the November meeting. This session will be led by Greg Carruthers and will start at 5.30pm. This is obviously dependent on the weather so please keep this in mind. We will provide updates via posts on the club website closer to the time.  If you are interested, please RSVP to Greg by Monday 7th November (0410 629 620, gkcarruthers@gmail.com ) if you intend to come along. For best results bring your tripod and L bracket and/or nodal rail if you have one. Greg will demonstrate both.

Note: This activity is at member’s own risk. The club does not have PL Insurance. The activity will involve walking around the foreshore area adjacent to the Valentine Bowling Club so dress accordingly.

ZOOM WORKSHOP – WEDNESDAY 26TH OCTOBER – 2022 PORTFOLIO EXERCISE

The final Wednesday night ZOOM presentation for 2022 will be held this coming Wednesday night, Wednesday 26th October commencing at 7.00pm. As usual the meeting room will be open from 6.45pm.

Through 2022 eight club members have been working on assembling a portfolio of images on their chosen theme. Our work has been facilitated by Craig Parker and Roy Killen through monthly ZOOM sessions in a collaborative, learning environment. Each members work is a reflection of their diverse interests.

This presentation will begin with Craig outlining the approach followed for the portfolio exercise and then each of the participants will present their portfolio outlining their motivation, approach and some of the challenges they encountered along the way. I am sure that you will find this session interesting and informative.

Club Christmas Party

Our Christmas party this year will be held at Valentine Bowling Club in the upstairs function room on Sunday 4th December, commencing at 6.00pm.  A two course meal will be served. Cost is $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members. Drinks from the bar at members cost.

There will be raffles and the presentation of our 2022 competition awards. This will be a great way to celebrate the end of what has been another disrupted year for club activities but will be a great opportunity for members families and guests to celebrate the festive season.

Tickets are available from Barbara Hunter and Katherine James and can be paid before or on the night. If you would like to attend please contact Barbara (babyshunter@gmail.com, 4946 7390) or Katherine (katherine.44@bigpond.com, 4943 7326) RSVP by Sunday 20th November.

October Club Night Reminder

Our next club night will be at the Valentine Bowling Club at 7.00pm on Tuesday 11th October and NOT the Wednesday night. This month our guest speaker will be Alex Hunter who will talk about his career as a photographer, accompanied by some of his images. Many of you know Alex but for some of our newer members Alex is one of the club’s life members. I encourage you to have a look at some of his work on the club’s website and you will see what an accomplished and passionate photographer he is. A talk not to be missed.

If you would like to enter one the club print competitions and you cannot make it to the club night with your prints you can always arrange for another club member to bring your prints along on the night and place them on the stands. Whilst you will not be able to hear the judges’ “live” comments at least your print will be scored and you will be offering valuable competition to the other entrants. I am at most print nights so if someone has prints and they would like them judged please contact me and drop off your prints at my place and I will ensure they get to the club night. Remember entries close 11.00pm Sunday 9th October. You still have time.

Again, can I encourage members who are attending the club nights to join the Valentine Bowling Club (VBC) as social members. The club is allowing us to use their upstairs function room without charge for our meetings and they welcome any support that our club can provide in return.

ZOOM Presentation – Wednesday 21st September – Preparing your images for PSA (Photographic Society of America) Competitions.

This coming Wednesday, 21st September Roy Killen will present a Zoom session to explain how to select your best images for each of the five completion categories – Colour, Monochrome, Nature, Photojournalism and Photo Travel.

The first round of the 2022/2023 PSA Interclub competition is now open with members having to upload their entries by 15th October so this is great timing for us to learn what is required to do well in PSA competitions. In Greg’s absence I will open the zoom meeting from 6.45pm so members can catch up prior to Roy’s presentation at 7.00pm. See you then.
