Results of 2021 Portfolio Presentation & ZOOM Meeting
Members might recall that Craig Parker presented his portfolio entry for PSA evaluation at a ZOOM tutorial earlier in the year. Following this presentation our club ran its own “Portfolio Competition” to allow members to gain some experience with preparing a portfolio of six individual images, a composite image and an accompanying “Statement of Intent”. The club’s “Portfolio Competition” was essentially a development opportunity for members who may consider entering an external portfolio competition in the future. Craig very kindly agreed to “judge” the entries, grade them and add comments.
Judging for the club’s 2021 Portfolio Competition is now complete and the results will be revealed via a club ZOOM Session at 7.00pm on Wednesday 20th October where Craig will present the entries, their grades and his comments. All club members regardless of whether they entered are encouraged to attend. At the end of Craig’s presentation there will be a forum discussion on the entries and a chance to hear from some of the people who submitted entries and to learn a little more about their entry and why they selected the topic they did.

Belmont 16s Photo Club Instagram Account
The Committee has recently agreed to establish a club Instagram account for the purpose of promoting our club and encouraging new members to join. A number of other photography and camera clubs use social media in this way to showcase their members’ work and encourage new members.
For those who do not use Instagram, it is a social media site that is used to share photographs and videos, and a large number of amateur and professional photographers use this site to showcase their work and promote themselves by sharing their awards and achievements. Others use it to get feedback and acknowledgement of their great work. Instagram is also a great place to view images from across the world and to get ideas for future shoots.
It is proposed that members with winning entries will be contacted each month to seek their consent to post their images on Instagram, and if they wish, they can then provide a low resolution copy of the image via return email. You can also add a watermark or signature to your image for copyright purposes if you wish. If you already have an Instagram account, you can provide your username so that it can be tagged in the image. If necessary, the image will be be resized to fit the standard Instagram image sizes so that it appears nicely on the site (please see standard Instagram image sizes below).
There are terms and conditions of use attached to Instagram, and if members have any concerns they can access these at: https://help.instagram.com/1215086795543252. Our Instagram account will have a clear statement about ownership and copyright of images which will be viewable by any other user that views the account, but this statement will not be applied to individual images as they are posted. Australian copyright laws provide protection over images, however, this may not be the case internationally. Whilst Instagram does have terms and conditions, these do not ensure complete protection for image theft. Images that are posted to Instagram are very low resolution which does make it difficult for them to be used for other purposes.
If you wish to have any of your past winning images posted on the clubs Instagram account to help promote the club – you can email these to belmont16sphoto.insta@gmail.com, noting any award (within the club or external to the club) that it has won and the image title. All images posted will contain the name of the image, the name of the author (for copyright purposes) and the award it received (if applicable).

Carol McGrath has kindly agreed to manage our club account in this effort to promote and grow our club. I encourage all members to get behind this initiative.
Many thanks Carol.
